Compounding

The method used for compounding polymers

Compounding is an extrusion-pelletizing process which allows the mixing of a polymer by fusion  (thermoplastic resin) with one or more masterbatchs in order to obtain a plastic in the form of compounds or masterbatches with their own physical or thermal characteristics, such as: antistatic, slip, anti-UV, antioxidant, etc.

These masterbatchs may be in solid, liquid, or powder form, or they may be presented in the form of rubber or elastomer bales.

The plastic pellets obtained by compounding may be loaded with carbon or mineral fibres, or reinforced by glass beads or fibreglass.
